God’s word: Jaycee

Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom—it’s animal cunning, devilish conniving. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats.

James 3:16 MSG

Today is day nine of reprioritizing my life. I started the first book of Samuel; so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s filled with a lot of suspense. With each turn of the page I was excited to see what happened next. When the audio stopped at the end of the page it felt like I was watching TV, going from scene to scene in my head. In my mind that is a sign that it is a good book.

Yesterday was day eight of my workout routine.  I feel my body changing, ever so slightly.  I know that weight loss doesn’t happen overnight.  That’s why I refuse to know exactly what’s happening with my weight.  I know I feel like something is happening because I’m getting better at moving around every day.  I usually have trouble closing the door to my bedroom.  Today it closed completely with one big push.  I usually have to move closer to finish closing it.

I’ve talked about my friend Jaycee before.  Jaycee is a local radio DJ at 99.9 KTDY.  We met in a very unique way.  My mom and I were in the car with my aunt Annette, I remember it clearly.  My aunt Annette was driving because my mom had a broken ankle at that time.  It had to have been around the time I was graduating high school.  I was very much into country music.  My aunt Annette said I cannot take country music and changed the station to 99.9 KTDY.  I remember it was a Friday because the polyester power hour was on.  At first I wasn’t having it; I didn’t like the music too much, as the day went on and shifts were changing.  I heard this very familiar voice.

Let me backtrack a little bit.  I was celebrating my sixteenth birthday.  My mom called the radio station we were listening to that morning.  I originally wanted to listen to sixteen candles.  The DJ was very smart, he knew his music, he said no.  I think I can find a better song.  He ended up playing the song you’re sixteen.  I never forgot that day.

When I heard his voice in the car on 99.9 KTDY I said that voice sounds familiar.  My mom told me where he had worked before; I instantly remembered he was the one that played my special sweet sixteen birthday song.  From then on I was hooked on 99.9 KTDY.  Back then I was meeting new people online, I went to the radio station website.  I found Jaycee’s email address, and sent him an email.  I told him that I remember that he played my sweet sixteen song, we ended up corresponding back-and-forth through email and AOL instant messaging.  One day he asked for my mom’s email address, I gave it to him, not knowing what he was planning on doing.  He contacted my mom and asked her if we could meet each other.  He told her that he enjoyed our conversations and wanted to meet face-to-face.  I remember the first time we met was at the Acadia in a mall in the food court.

Now you would think a public figure like Jaycee would only care about his reputation.  That is not the case with Jaycee.  He is very caring, down to earth, and cares about people.  After that first meeting, our friendship just blossomed from there.  We are not able to see a lot of each other today, but we keep in touch through Facebook.

I love Jaycee like a family member; he has supported me through a lot.  And I hope that I do the same for him.  That’s why from now on you will see this link at the bottom of each blog entry.  Starting today I am supporting Jaycee, just like he supports me by sharing my blog once a week on the radio station website.
